Pico Veleta with skis
Sierra Nevada March 11, 2018
The Sierra Nevada range is a mountain range located in the South of Spain, in the province of Granada and contains the highest peak of continental Spain and Europe outside the Caucasus Mountains and the Alps: Mulhacén at 3,478 metres (11,411 ft) above sea level. Another prominent peak in the Sierra Nevada range is the Pico Veleta. This peak is the third highest peak of the Iberian peninsula and the second highest in the Sierra Nevada with its 3,398 metres (11,148 ft). Veleta's northern slopes are home to the Sierra Nevada Ski Station and this is usually the starting point for most of my short training trips to the second highest mountain in the region.

This activity is ideal for early morning training when you don't have much time but you're after a moderate positive ascent of +1,000m of consistently good terrain because you are nearly all the time traversing in hard snow of the ski slopes..
